Jeff Pinney
Jeff Pinney has just released an autobiographical book recounting his life as he has coped with the gradual change in his function related to the onset of Multiple Sclerosis. The book will leave the reader with a tear in the eye and a smile on the face as one reads about this adventurous man’s encounter with raccoons that invaded his home and his experience crawling out of a frigid bog after his all Terrain Vehicle became embedded in mud and submerged tree trunks. An inspiring read that is sure to help anyone take a positive attitude toward the obstacles they face in life.

Time to Think About Christmas

Yes, Christmas is approaching and it is time to consider what you will get for your friends, family, staff and co-workers. Why not ask your loved ones to go to www.MadeInHaliburton.ca and capture their favourite items using the “wish list” function. They can then share it with you and you’ll be able to acquire that just right item for them without the fear that they will not like what you give them. Act soon as many of the items are one-of-a-kind or in limited supply and we would not want to disappoint you or your loved one. A gift certificate would be another way to ensure your loved one loves the gift.

ARTIST PROFILE

Gord Jones
Gord Jones says “ I paint to selfishly communicate my impression of what interests me and hope that it interests others as well”. Gord has been developing his artistic skills for over 30 years. After trying several different mediums such as pastels, oils, acrylics, even egg tempera, he kept coming back to watercolour. He has studied under many of Canada’s most-loved watercolour artists through the Dundas Valley School of Art and Haliburton School of Fine Art. Some of his instructors have included Brian Atyeo, Jane Champagne, Gordon Perrier, Barry Coombs, William Biddle, Doug Mays and Art Cunanan. Gord’s source of inspiration is either photos he has taken himself, or direct plein air. He has some works in corporate and personal collections.

Corporate Gifting

MadeInHaliburton.ca is the perfect partner for Canadian Corporations who are wishing to recognize individual employees through a meaningful gift. If the corporation you work for has a corporate gifting program please pass the www.MadeInHaliburton.ca website address along to the appropriate person. The corporation would have the choice of:
1. Choosing a gift they believe is appropriate for the occasion from the over 400 items already listed on the website.
2. Having a custom item designed and created especially for the occasion.
3. Presenting the individual with a custom designed gift certificate that would allow the employee to choose their gift from the website or have a custom designed piece created for them.
We are prepared to work with you to create a gifting program that will excite your employees while highlighting the wonderful work of Canadian Artists. Why not call us at 705-286-5085 to discuss.

Tip of the Iceberg

The items listed on the www.MadeInHaliburton.ca website are really just the “tip of the iceberg”. The artists have many more items in their inventory. If you see a style you like but, not the exact item please use the icon on each artist’s page that says “ask about other artwork by me” to enquire. Not all of the items will need to be custom designed, thereby creating a long lag time – some items you desire will be in stock but, simply not on the website as it is impossible to display all items for all 50 artists.

Draw

The lovely novelty ceramic dish with moose imprints around the rim, created by Rickie Woods Potter, was won by LInda McGillivray. If anyone knows Cole Hebert who won last month’s draw please let him know that he must contact us before Sept 30th or the piece will be put into another draw (we only have facebook contact info and he has not responded).
You can still win art in a draw that will occur on Thanksgiving Monday: see details. Tell all your friends to sign up for the newsletter or “like us” on Facebook.

Charity Auctions

MadeInHaliburton.ca launched its new auction function with 3 charity auctions in August. Thanks to the kindness of a local citizen tickets to the sold out Jim Cuddy performance were auctioned off. The outcome was $400 to the Volunteer Dental Outreach Program and $395 for the Arts Council! Thanks to all who participated in the auctions. Be on the look out for another charity auction starting Sept 27th – in support of Arts Alive Minden.

At this time we carry tickets for the ForestFestival, a once a year event that happens in August (Aug 15 to 19 this year). The theatre is in the midst of a forest and the entertainment is of the highest quality … a magical combination of music and nature.

We also carry tickets for events of the Haliburton County FolkSociety. The next one occurs on Mother’s Day and brings well-known performer Ron Hynes to the Moose Bar and Grill on Wigamog Road.
