W.J. (Bill) Cornwall, a watercolour and oil painter, has just joined the ranks of Haliburton Highlands artists who are selling their work on www.MadeInhaliburton.ca. Cornwall’s association with the Haliburton Highlands has been lifelong. It all began when he vacationed here, as a child, with his family. At that time he spent summers here at the Drag Lake Lodge. Thus, as an adult it was only natural to be drawn to Drag Lake when he and his wife, Gail, decided to buy a cottage.
Bill and Gail were seasonal residents until Bill’s retirement from the legal profession in 1998. His retirement, coupled with permanent residence in the Haliburton Highlands, enabled him to pursue his love of painting, fishing, and exploring in this beautiful area of Canada. Bill has always been interested in painting and nature. Living here in the Haliburton Highlands has allowed him the opportunity of combining these interests. He is essentially a self taught artist but has benefited from several workshop courses at the Haliburton School Of The Arts.
Most of Bill’s paintings involve the effects of light on the lakes, streams, forested areas, and old buildings location in the Haliburton Highlands, Algonquin Park, and other similar wilderness areas. The beauty and serenity of these areas inspires Bill to capture them for posterity using watercolour, oil or acrylic paints.
Bill is a member of the Arts Council~Haliburton Highlands and displays his work in galleries in the Haliburton Highlands including, most recently, the new online gallery www.MadeInHaliburton.ca.
