Wilma Warne

About the Artist:

Wilma Warne (Nee Love) is an artist who works with fabric, needle and thread. She was born in Port Simpson in British Columbia. She was officially adopted into the Tsimshean nation at her baptismal service and was given the native name of Daust . Her high school and post-graduate education were taken in the Fraser Valley and Vancouver. Wilma taught school for a number of years and then became a full-time home-maker and mother.

About Her Art:

After haunting all of the fabric stores for miles and miles around her Haliburton Highlands home she cuts the fabric into pieces and begins her artistic process. Recently she has also begun dying her material to assist her in creating fabric pictures for unique wall hangings. Her machine-emboidered quilts, wall-hangings and other innovative items have added variety to her inventory. Some of her work has been influenced by a recent visit to her native community and encouragement to express her heritage through her art.

Her pieced quilts, wall-hangings and fabric creations have been very successful in competitions in both Manitoba and Ontario. Nine years ago she was welcomed into The Guild of Master Craftsmen International.
