Susan Hay

About the Artist:

Susan is a retired nurse who is living her dream of being an artist.  For the past 15 years, Susan has devoted herself to honing her skills as an artist, taking many courses at the Haliburton School of the Arts including the Drawing and Painting Certificate Course in the fall of 2011.  Susan and her husband, Keith have been renting or owning cottages in Haliburton for about 15 years and she is most inspired by the natural landscape of the Haliburton area.  She paints her vibrant acrylic landscapes from the vast library of beautiful photos that she has taken from her canoe as she and her husband paddle Haliburton's myriad lakes.

About Her Art:

Susan's landscapes are painted on canvases that she texturizes with molding paste, then uses acrylic paint in vibrant colours to create scenes which sing with vitality.  One colleague stated that Susan's greatest strength in her art was to evoke light in the landscape.  Susan takes great pleasure in depicting water so that it looks wet and is fascinated by reflections in still water.  It is easy to see Susan's reverence for nature through her landscapes.
