This Tub, ring, or snood scarf is made withe a lattis/ring design by Susan MacDonald using Merino Wool, imported from Australia, and silk. It is a multi-coloured piece with black, purple, olive and red. Each colour is carefully choosen then seperated carefully into long lengths. 9 lengths then bringing every second one up for the weaving affect, these are down for the warp. Starting from the middle I lay down everyother weft but only half. Bringing back the Warp pieces then lay the rest of the weft down on top. A resist is put down then the process is repeated around the resist to create a RING Hand wet felted. Tube scarfs can be warn many ways, the ideas are endless.. you can use the holes in the scarf to pull your fabric thought to create endless ways you can wear this fabulous scarf. Shown in pictures.
Why have we chosen to make our base layers from merino? Why is merino wool so great? A few scientists have had a bit of a closer look at the woolly stuff. Here are some of their thoughts. It is hydroscopic. That is to say capable of absorbing moisture vapour and moving it away from your body, while at the same time repelling liquids. This is unique to Merino. It is highly absorbent and can hold up to 30% of its weight in moisture before it starts to feel damp. It releases heat back to your body at 4 times the rate of nylon meaning you will be warm and cozy. Additionally it is a great insulator. Merino is breathable and thus, can be worn in warm or cold weather without developing that clammy feeling. Merino is naturally resistant to absorbing odours or soil and thus, does not require laundering as frequently as other similar fabrics. It is made of the same substance as our skin --keratin. Thus, it does not itch like the wool you may have been exposed to in the past. It is significantly finer than sheep's wool and feels much like silk against your skin. It is also static and fire resistant!
